After reviewing the help button that I created for the Build-A-Bot game we will release soon, the team didn't like all of the text that appeared when you asked for help. Being a Computer science major, being artistic in design is not my strong suit. However, I was tasked with changing the layout of the help button to make it more visually appealing. I had to take all the information somehow and make it easier on the eyes.
So I decided to take this information, and change it a little. I noticed that the majority of the text I had previously was for controls, so instead of creating separate blocks of text next to their respective button, I could just make a controls table that users can look at and determine what each button did, or how each mode works. This is the final product of the help button that I created and designed:
This table is toggled by pressing the button with the question mark at the bottom right of the screen. This experience taught me that although your job position might say one thing, the chances of there being an interdisciplinarity aspect to it are very high. This aspect should be an invitation to learn more and expand your horizon.
The next assignment for the Build-A-Bot lab is working on the cookie policy and cookie popup for the website on which we will be hosting our game. I am very excited and nervous to delve into this as it will focus more on web development and even law!
